Feeling deeply loved and accepted is indescribable; it fills us up and enables us to become who we are made to be. Whether it’s from friends, family or a spouse, we all crave love and acceptance. The best news is that craving was put inside of us for a reason, to be satisfied. But many times we experience the exact opposite. The people we care the most about disappoint us. The ones we think will be there forever - leave, shattering our hearts. The sting of lost love is one that doesn’t fade fast. Plus, it usually leaves wounds that we can’t mend on our own. I don’t know about you but I really struggle in this journey to giving, receiving, and resting in love.
Because I have been hurt by friends in the past I have trouble being completely open with the women in my life. Because I have had my heart crushed by men I struggle accepting the fact that one might never leave. Because I have been gossiped about I wonder if my girlfriends are talking about me when I miss a coffee date. The reality is that these things have happened to me as they may have happened to you too. In fact, you may have experienced much worse. I am not here to say that you will ever be able to run from the hurt that comes through love, we live in a broken world full of hurting people. But I am here to remind you that despite what you have been through, the God of the universe loves you more than you could ever imagine.
I literally just re-read that three times and reminded myself, despite all that I have done, that He still loves me. It's hard to even scratch the surface of that reality. But if we can, we will begin to uncover the truth of God’s unfailing love for us. The love that enables you and I to live a life we could only dream of, filled with deeply rooted joy and peace.
There are beautiful hills and valleys in love. My hope is that we can celebrate God’s faithfulness in the hills and preserve through the valleys, hand in hand, trusting His plan. I definitely don’t have all the answers to love but I do know the author of love itself and I trust that he will reveal more and more of himself as we dive into these together.
After all, what is life without love and relationship?
